An empty factory in the centre of Lier, previously named "ONIX SHOE", is the main location of a joint project by Experimental Intermedia and VOORKAMER.
Artists iniatives have the ability to compensate the absence of funds with dedication, idealism and, maybe mainly, expertise.
Twelve artists from Germany, Holland, the USA and Belgium not only took over the former shoe factory, they also created four window displays in its neihgbourhood... Thus a dynamic route originated that became part of the project as a realisation of what preceded it: a dialogue and interaction between the organisers, the artists, the various locations and their representatives. With the right explenation one could even mention the linking of the past (the city of Lier and its architectural heritage), the recent industrial history and the present, with the artists as alchemists.
Such a context requires artists willing and able to realise (and here in sometimes constructive proportions) their work on the spot. The exhibition site must be both workshop and meeting place; a fertile environment instead of a mere sterile preservation-space.
