Hannelore Van Dijck: Le Plat Pays
24 Aug 2012 — 26 Aug 2012

During Summer, Voorkamer always invites an artist to make a site specific work in the Historical Holy Ghost Site. For 2012 Hannelore Van Dijck (°1986, Antwerp) was selected. During her residence in Voorkamer she will work on a space filling drawing in the courtyard of the Holy Ghost site. The 3th floor of the barn becomes a watchtower.

Berlin-resident Van Dijck describes her drawings as settings without characters, as activity where context generates tension. Within the close contact with the material she explores notions of space, structure and tangibility. With charcoal drawings she tries to create a new type of space and thereby redefine the original context of the site, aiming to re-interpretate the meaning of the original architecture.
While the drawing defines the margin, the surface determines the intervention and merges with the drawing. The viewer is pulled into the image. The temporary character of the drawing brings out the most poetical qualities of the material. By not persuiting the conservation, the work get's an ultimate fragility.
